Samina Karim is one of the world’s leading experts in the area of corporate strategy and innovation. Her research focuses on acquisitions and alliances, corporate restructuring, organization design, and innovation. Samina has consulted for, taught executives at, and developed executive programs for organizations including BP, Dell, Ericsson, IBM, IDG, and KPN.
Samina is currently a Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business, and previously taught at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business.
She has a Ph.D. in Strategy from University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, a Masters in Applied Economics from University of Michigan’s Economics department, a Masters in Education from Harvard University, and a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.
Samina’s research has been published in leading journals including the Harvard Business Review, Academy of Management Journal, Management Science, Organization Science and the Strategic Management Journal. Owing in part to her highly cited research, she is also an Associate Editor of the Strategic Management Journal, the most influential strategy publication in the field. In addition Samina is an active participant in the Organization Design Community and served as Senior Editor of the Journal of Organization Design from its founding in 2013 through 2017. She also serves on the editorial boards of Organization Science, Strategic Organization and Strategy Science journals.
Samina was recently elected to lead the Strategic Management Division of the global Academy of Management which represents the largest group of Strategy scholars in the world. Prior to this she served as the elected Chair of the Competitive Strategy interest group of the international Strategic Management Society.
In her spare time, Samina is passionate about nonprofit work (she serves on the Board of Directors for Outreach360.org and 5050startups.org), fast cars, and strategy board games.
